Tuesday 09/05/00, It was a good weekend. Didn't get as much done on the Cobra as I would have liked, but I finished up a few odds and ends. First, I found some band clamps for the fuel lines, so I finished them up. I also installed the Mass air meter and canister purge solenoid.
Just when I thought I was finished cleaning donor parts, up comes the radiator and fan shroud. More cleaning and painting. Argh...The fan shroud was damaged in the wreck so I used a grinding wheel to smooth out the rough edges. They wont show unless you stand on your head and look under the car so I'm not too concerned. Just for grins I painted the J pipe exhaust pieces that fit between the header and sidepipes. I installed them and played with the positioning of the side pipes, but it is a two man job so I couldn't get a good feel for how they will fit. They should be close as near as I can tell.

You can check out some more engine installation pictures here.

Sunday 09/10/00, Well the one year anniversary of getting my kit came and went on the ninth and it still isn't running. It's getting closer though. I mounted the radiator this weekend, but the upper radiator hose has a bit of a kink in it where it connects to the radiator. It turns out this is a common problem and someone on the cobraforum recommended getting a different hose from NAPA (part# 7886). I'm going to try this and see how it works.

I installed the heater hoses this weekend as well as the vacuum operated valve that turns the heater on and off. I had to buy some 5'8" heater hose since the hose that came with the heater seemed too tight. I used part of the original molded heater hose to allow a 90 degree bend on the heater intake. I also started wiring the car this weekend. The plan is to loosely route the wires, get the car running and then remove any extra circuits from the harnesses and re-wrap them.

This web site hit a bit of a milestone on the ninth with it's ten thousandth page view. (Check out the stats here) Good timing for the one year anniversary of my kit. It seems incredible to me that so many people have taken the time to check out this site. I'd like to thank all of you for the kind words, tips and encouragement. I hope the site has been useful to you. If you ever have any questions or need a picture of something that's not clear, send me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do.
